PROJECT NO. 12 – PhD POSITION

Project title: YoctoReactor chemistry

Project description: Expand the tool box of organic chemical reactions that are DNA-compatible, i.e. to identify reaction conditions whereby chemical building blocks can be linked together. This may e.g. be Pd-catalyzed coupling reactions, cycloaddition reactions, multicomponent reactions etc. Develop new linker strategies for covalent tethering of building blocks to DNA – either permanent or transient linkages. This serves to expand the types of building blocks that can be built into chemical libraries whereby providing higher diversity and better quality of libraries produced. Develop protection groups which installation and removal are also compatible with DNA.

Requirements: The applicant for this project should hold a master (or equivalent) in chemistry. She/He ideally has worked with DNA directed chemistry or chemical modification of DNA during her/his master thesis. Practical experiences within the fields of organic synthetic chemistry, molecular biology (DNA oligonucleotides), PAGE, HPLC, and mass spectrometry (small molecules and/or biomolecules) are desirable.
